So long, good year of 2011 music! I had so much fun in the year knowing that lots of new names are in, and their albums are out! But i'm not gonna talk albums here, anyway. I'm talking songs that played most on my iTunes, at car, anywhere i've been this past year. From January to just days ago, i found pretty good tunes that stuck in my head. It's not the greatest songs of 2011. You can just google it and many many charts of magazines and websites are gonna appear. No. These are my most favorite songs of 2011. Few weeks ago, i and some mixtape enthusiast fellas were just tweeting about a dare to create a mixtape of our most favorite tunes at the end of this year. A highly rotated songs in our music players. I love Ed Sandi's The Fandom 2011 Albums Mixtape which you can download at http://edsandi.weebly.com and now i'm waiting for Dimas Ario, Alexander Kusuma, and Marnala Eros's Mixtapes! Some of the most highlighted songs from best albums of 2011 are big names already. I'm talking Adele, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, etc. So, you probably don't need me to mix what's already in your playlist anyway. These songs i compiled here are the ones that you missed, or almost missed, but you can not miss them before this year ends! So, enjoy my most favorite songs of 2011! And let's welcome another good year of music! I believe (and read) that many many more great albums and songs are to be released soon! :) *alphabetical order* 01. Beach Fossils - Face It Even though they released What A Pleasure EP in March 2011, this Brooklyn - NYC based indie rock band stunned me with their previously (at the end of 2010) released single Face It. Their missed out debut album was re-released as EP, with the same title, but with re-arranged songs and of course, a new sense of confidence. I love the harmony of the guitar and the bass line at intro. It stuck in my head til now. Everyday. ;) 02. Easter Island - Proud Taken from the album Better Things released in March 2011, the progressive pop band from Athens finally done some serious work after the joining of Asher Paine, a master in vocal performance. With his unique voice, galvanizing lyrics and dreamy sound, Easter Island is now on another work of a new album. 03. Feist - The Bad In Each Other Not the single of her new Metals album released in October 2011. It's supposed to be the single, in my opinion. But actually the song is the first song in the album, so, it's kinda make it okay. I think it's the strongest song in Metals. It shocking and straight to the point in explaining the album. "it's gonna be dark. darker than ever. so, watch out." 04. Gem Club - Breakers Yes, it is another dream pop duo. You may get tired of the dream pop hazy formula, but Gem Club took the liberty of minimalism in the dreamy part. With solemn piano line and low key vocal, they stand out of the other dream pop. The song is spacious, warm, deep, sad. I listen to this song when i wanted to cry but i couldn't. The song taken from the album, also, Breakers, released July 2011. 05. Generationals - Trust Taken from Trust EP released at the very beginning of 2011. The New Orleans indie pop trio released the debut album Con Law that has a lot of difference with this EP, and releasing another EP at the end of this year that sounds so different from the previous records. I love how experimental a new band could be. Lots of surprises! This song is one of the ear catchy songs i listen to while driving alone. 06. Geoffrey O'Connor - Whatever Leads Me To You You don't know how happy i was when i first listened to this song. The moment was when Adele ruled the world with her songs (and still is). It was so refreshing, so different, so pure, so way back then 80s. Thank you Geoffrey for the perfect timing of releasing this single. I love you! 07. John Vanderslice - Sea Salt Taken from the album White Wilderness out January 2011. The songs were live recorded, and it only took 3 days to finish all the work. Collaborated with Magik*Magik Orchestra that amplify his modest and intimate vocals and song writings. I love that you can hear the little cracks and pops in his voice for the verses, then it sort of goes to a wide shot when the strings come in 08. Lykke Li - Sadness Is A Blessing The highlight of the song is THE VIDEO. She wanted to be an actress, and trained to be one, and it showed in this video of her second single taken from February released Wounded Rhymes. You have to watch it. Here. 09. Mogwai - San Pedro I started listening to Mogwai in 2003. Not too much, not too deep. But when they released the album in February 2011, i had to have it. The title Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will intrigued me to start listening. I rarely like instrumental songs, but, who will resist listening if the song was like this? 10. St. Vincent - Surgeon Do you remember the hashtag #strangemercy on Twitter, June 2011? Well it was a shout out from St. Vincent fans to 'force' her to release a free download for the single of her album Strange Mercy out July 2011. And, yes, she did. And, yes, it was (still is) amazing. 11. Sunbears! - They Think They're Soooo Philosophical You Will Live Forever, album released November 2011 is soooo whimsical! The handclaps and the percussion reminiscent of the 60s, 70s groovy tunes, and hilarious lyrics (sang in very serious faces). This is pop. no. this is rock.argh. this is i don't know. Just listen to it. I love all the 13 songs in the album. They are soooo electrical! Perfect closure of 2011. Refreshing and full of hope to the 2012 new scenes! 12. My Empire of Sound - Early Morning I have to take this photo from their Facebook page. Seems like nobody knows them. No website, only Soundcloud. Not even released an album yet. Like they say in their Facebook page "our album is not out until next year though". My Empire Of Sound is duo from Denmark, and only 78 people liked their Facebook page. 13. Wye Oak - Civilian Brilliant album. 21st century folk by a woman who sings and plays guitar. Jenn Wasner is totally my hero now. What more can i say on the album? It has a lot of layers that keep your ears wide open from the beginning to the last second of the last song. On the song itself? Well : Jenn Wasner. Fingerpicked guitar play. Effortless vocals. Electric Guitar Riffs. Storytelling. i'm in love. 14. Yacht - Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire) Yacht doens't talk about love. Yacht talks about tales, earth, apocalypse, science fiction. I'm thinking a pretty jammin' armageddon. Shangri-La the album was released in July 2011. The the album artwork is trash, the songs are not so good. i was so disappointed because the single Dystopia is better than the package. It could be better. 15. Yuck - Shook Down One of the best in 2011. Best album, best songs, best band. Yuck is indie rock/garage rock band from London. Shook Down is one of the romantic songs with electric guitar riffs and catchy verse "you could be my destiny, you could mean that much to me" that hook you straight ahead in the first hearing. 90s tunes all over the album. in a very nice and refreshing way. i first listened to the album on May 2011, and still listening to it til today. Almost everyday. and absolutely tomorrow. In fact, i will listen to it, now. ;) You can download the songs here Enjoy my most favorite songs of 2011! See you on the next year's list! :) also, my short list of the most enjoyable albums of 2011 : *excluding the albums that have one the songs i mentioned in the mixtape* Bon Iver - Bon Iver M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming Adele - 21 Destroyer - Kaputt Radiohead - King Of Limbs Real Estate - Days The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Belongs Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues Zee Avi - Ghostbirds Wilco - The Whole Love Washed Out - Within & Without Ryan Adams - Ashes and fire Comments04/28/2012 07:24
